St. Nina Mission was founded as an outreach ministry of St. Athanasius Orthodox Church, our mother parish in Nicholasville, in summer of 2021. Desiring to gather the local Orthodox Christians along the I-75 Corridor south of Lexington in a location closer to their homes, Archbishop Alexander blessed our clergy and lay leadership to begin this work that ultimately would become St. Nina Mission.
Meeting at first in homes, we then met bi-monthly at the Berea Friends House, setting up and breaking down our liturgical equipment each time we met. The itinerant life of our mission was difficult and we prayed that the Lord would provide a place where we could set down roots and begin a deeper ministry of presence in Madison County and further south.
In March of 2024, St. Nina Mission community—with the help of our mother parish—obtained a new semi-permanent home, a 1000 sq. foot storefront space in north Berea (exit 77 off I-75.) As of April 2024, the mission is meeting each Tuesday at 630pm in our new chapel and we are exploring adding more services gradually. (Please see our google calendar to verify our upcoming services.)
